Superintendents Message
As Superintendent of MSAD 13/RSU 83 it is my pleasure to welcome you to our district website. We are extremely proud of our school district. Upper Kennebec Valley Memorial Sr. High School was recognized by Newsweek as one of the best high schools in the United States in 2016. As a district we are committed to achieving our mission statement.

Our School and CommunityUpper Kennebec Valley Memorial High School is located in Bingham, ME and serves the towns of Bingham and Moscow, and hosts tuitioned students from Pleasant Ridge Plantation, Concord Township and West Forks. Currently we have approximately 180 students in grades K-12. We are a small rural community located in Central Somerset County, halfway between the equator and the North Pole!
Our Curriculum and Courses
To earn a high school diploma from Valley, students must successfully complete 4 credits in English, 3 credits in math, 3 credits in science, 3 credits in social studies, 1 credit in physical education, 1 credit in health and 1 credit in fine arts. In addition, they must earn a minimum of 24 credits and accumulate 40 hours of community service.
Our courses run on a semester schedule and range from our traditional college preparatory courses and electives, to our dual enrollment college courses through schools such as, University of Maine at Fort Kent, Kennebec Valley Community College, Thomas College, the University of Maine at Machias and Husson University. In addition, some students choose to take courses through our regional technical center, Somerset Career and Technical Center in Skowhegan.
Our Grading
We grade on a 100 point scale. A = 93-100 B= 85-92 C= 75-84 D= 74-70 F= 69 or below.
Our Rank and GPA
Class rank is based on an unweighted GPA. Students who have attended Valley High School for two consecutive years will be included in the class rank. Classes that average into class rank include regular education classes at Valley High School. Dual Enrollment courses are not included in GPA or class rank.
SAT Results
Every junior at Valley participates in the SAT exam, which is paid for by the State of Maine as part of the Maine High School Assessment.
Awards and Distinctions
2015 Newsweek award for one of the best public schools in the nation for “Beating the Odds”. This award honors schools that are excelling at preparing low-income students for college.
